The Blue Room - Dawn

I can't paint when I'm down. In fact, I've done
little art in my lifetime through lack of motivation and energy,
depression etc. It always gets done in spurts of a month or two
in between years of abstention. I went to art college in the late
seventies which didn’t do anything for me and I was kicked
out. The teaching methods there were stupid beyond belief.
Earlier I used to work in oils but now work exclusively
on the computer apart from some drawing which I did at the College
of Adult Education. Now is a bad time to be a painter or draughtsman
because of the prevailing fashions in art. I don't feel like doing
installations to please the London set, or even the local galleries,
and regard such 'art' as inferior to good visual art. You need to
be foolish to please those who are foolish themselves. Chances are,
however, that they will see that you have depth and then regard
you as a pariah.
If you like good painting why not try the Art Renewal
Centre on www.artrenewal.org
which is staging something of a comeback in certain circles.
