HI there - just a note to say that this poem may be *triggering* for some people, esp in the are of self harm/cutting. Please only read it if you feel strong enough, and if you're feeling bad then please get some support (there are some useful organisations in the self harm and crisis/suicidal sections of my links page. Take care of yourselves xxx Rachel

'Slight Welts'

slight welts,
red, mounded ridges
rising
to that slender
ribbon split of skin.
ruby-red bleeding,
but not quite.

dancing down the base
of thumb and wrist,
delicately cascading,
but stopping short

as though
some invisible dam
had cut them off,

from reaching
that perfection
of repetition and rhythm;
decorating my thin
and densely scarred arm.
