Combat Stress - A national charity working to support those who have suffered psychologically as a result of serving in the armed forces (including PTSD, depression, psychosis and OCD)

Help For Adult Victims Of Child Abuse (HAVOCA) - A non-profit making organisation based in the UK dedicated to provide help, support and information to any adult who is suffering from past childhood abuse

Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture - A charity that is dedicated soley to the treatment of torture survivors, including: advocacy, counselling & physical therapies

National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) - Site includes a resource list, details of their helpline and some of the experiences and creativity of survivors

Rape Crisis - Provides specialist services for women and girls who have been raped or sexually abused. Includes info on local rape crisis centres, getting help and reporting it

Sidran Traumatic Stress Institute - International not for profit organisation aimed at supporting people to recovery form the effects of trauma (including dissociative disorders). Includes a comprehensive resource section

Survivors Swindon - Supports male survivors of childhood sexual abuse and adult sexual assaults. Website has a wealth of information ranging from anger and guilt to managing nightmares, flashbacks and PTSD

Survivors UK - Providing support, information and counselling for men who have been raped or sexually abused. Includes library, research, personal testimonies and a national helpline

Women's Aid - A national charity working to support women and children affected by domestic violence. Site includes finding help locally and a survivors handbook

AddAction - UK site for an organisation supporting those with drug and/or alcohol problems. Sections include Info for parents, info for young people, a-z drug index and a listing of local services

Alcohol Concern - Working to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems

FRANK - Sensible advice and information on drugs

The Recovery Network - A global online community of people affected by addition, either directly or indirectly.

Turning Point - National charity that helps those with addictions, mental health problems and/or learning disabilities. Site includes details of local services (inc residential, counselling, community support)

Antipsychiatry Coalition - A US site by people who feel they have been harmed by psychiatry, and their supporters. Includes some articles and links to survivor sites and sites for professionals

Coming Off Psychiatric Medication - Information and resources for those wanting to look into alternatives to medication for mental distress

Critical Psychiatry Website - Arguing against psychiatric practices/treatments, including lots of articles, links and an e-mail discussion group

Evolving Minds - A West Yorkshire based group aiming to provide a space to discuss, debate, share, learn value and campaign for alternative and compassionate approaches to emotional and mental health

Mind Freedom - A US based site 'where mutual support meets human rights activism'. Site contains info on their campaigns, news, a ‘mad market’ and a large links section

Rufus May - Following on from the TV program 'The Doctor Who Hears Voices', Rufus has set up his own website with plenty of information, articles and news that should delight anyone who's interested in looking outside mainstream psychiatry to understand mental distress

Soteria Network - UK's Soteria Network, housed at Birmingham City University, is based on the work of Loren Mosher and is looking at non co-ercive and humane methods of supporting people experiencing psychosis. Page consists of information on membership and the approach

The Icarus Project - Navigating The Space Between Brilliance & Madness. "We are a network of people living with experiences that are commonly labeled as bipolar or other psychiatric conditions. We believe we have mad gifts to be cultivated and taken care of, rather than diseases or disorders to be suppressed or eliminated"
