BonkersFest
BonkersFest! is a free annual one day summer arts
and music festival, illuminating and celebrating madness, creativity,
individuality and eccentricity; combating stigma and promoting good
mental health - A day of bonkers celebrations for everyone - bonkers
or not
BonkersFest! ’06 attracted significant media
interest particularly from the local South London Press. A prop
sheep was stolen and the paper initiated a campaign and an award
to find the sheep who was indeed found in a bush. Since then the
sheep has featured in a campaign to save the local Emergency 24
hour psychiatric walk in clinic led by Southwark Mind and Creative
Routes.
Creative Routes has featured in the news both ITV and BBC London.
On BBC3 I Love Being Mad. BonkersFest! has featured on Inside Out
on BBC1 in October 2006, will be screened on Balderdash and Piffle
BBC2 in the Spring, and featured in the Independent on Sunday Magazine
on March 18th 2007.
BonkersFest ’08 presented a varied programme and incorporates
a diverse range of arts practitioners which is reflected by its
partners. Creating new opportunities for artists to interact with
communities and to forge interactions between mad and normal communities
is one of the key aims of BonkersFest!
